How to Build a Balanced Smoothie

Start by choosing a portion of fruit – a portion of fruit is roughly equal to 1 cup of cut-up fruit / 1 tennis-ball sized fruit / 1 medium banana. Try to freeze your fruit to get a creamier and thicker consistency.

Add a protein to your smoothie – Examples could be whey protein powder / vegan protein powder / collagen powder / portion of yoghurt.

Add a good fat to your smoothie – Examples are nut butters / seed butters / nuts / seeds / flaxseed powder / chia seeds / avocado.

Bulk up your smoothies with veggies – baby spinach, kale, frozen steamed, baby marrow, raw carrots, raw beetroot are all examples of veggies that not only taste delicious in smoothies but also add loads of extra nutrients to it.

Add optional flavours to your smoothie – Such as cocoa powder, maca, cinnamon, vanilla, acai powder etc.

Lastly add your liquid of choice and ice – your liquid could be almond milk, oat milk, soya milk, full cream / low fat / skim milk, coconut water.
