How to Build a Balanced Salad

Choose the base of your salad – this should consist of your non-carbohydrate veggies such as lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, baby spinach, onion, baby marrows, broccoli, mushrooms, cabbage etc.

Choose protein for your salad – this could be any protein source such as chicken, steak strips, pork strips, tofu, beans, chickpeas, feta or boiled eggs.

Choose a Carbohydrate – such as roasted sweet potatoes, roasted butternut, roasted beetroot, corn, beans, grains (such as couscous, quinoa, buckwheat, bulgar wheat, rice, or lentils) or fruit.

Finally, choose a fat portion for your salad – this could be the dressing of your salad, avocado, nuts, seeds or olives.
